Spinners is here to teach Probability

“Spinners: Explore” is an interactive learning resource designed to help students investigate chance and probability. In this activity, learners work with a digital spinner—a dial with a pointer divided into equal-sized sectors—and then build their own spinners. They can choose up to twelve equal-sized sectors and assign different colours to each sector.

Students test their spinners by running a series of spins, with the outcomes automatically recorded in a graph and table. This allows them to compare the actual frequency of each colour landing against the theoretical probabilities. Through this exploration, learners can see how increasing the proportion of a specific colour on a spinner influences the likelihood of the spinner landing on that colour.

“Spinners: Explore” encourages students to predict outcomes, experiment with different configurations, and analyse data to understand probability concepts. It’s an engaging way to connect theoretical mathematics with practical investigation, building a foundation in probability and statistics in a fun, interactive format.
