A Number Puzzle Where Every Move Changes the Board

9 is a simple-looking number puzzle that quickly turns into a game of careful planning. The goal is to slide numbered blocks around the board and combine them until they make 9. Knowing basic addition helps, but solving a level takes much more than finding two numbers that add up correctly.

You control the puzzle with the mouse. Drag a numbered block in one of the available directions and it slides across the grid. When compatible numbers meet, their values combine. A 5 can join a 4 to make 9. A 7 can meet a 2. A 6 and 3 also give you the number you need.

Finished Nines Stay on the Board

Creating a 9 sounds like progress, and it is, but every completed 9 also becomes part of the puzzle. Once formed, the block stays in place. Other numbers cannot simply travel through it.

This means the order of your moves matters.

Making an easy 9 too soon can block a path needed by other numbers. A tile that still needs to reach its partner may become trapped behind completed blocks. It often helps to study the whole board before making the most obvious combination.

Think About Space as Well as Addition

9 is not only a math game. It also tests how well you understand movement and position.

You may know which two numbers belong together but still need to work out how to bring them into contact. Open spaces become valuable as more completed blocks fill the level.

Some puzzles require several attempts. An unsuccessful move can still be useful because it shows which part of the board needs to remain open.

Plenty of Puzzles to Work Through

The game includes a large collection of normal stages along with additional Remix puzzles. Early levels make the main rule easy to understand. Later layouts demand much more planning.

9 works well because its entire challenge grows from one small idea. Slide the numbers, create nines, and clear the puzzle. The arithmetic stays easy enough to understand, while the changing board gives players plenty to think about.
