Paint, Draw, and Create Sound

Music Paint is an interactive creative tool that transforms drawing into sound. Every line, curve, dot, and movement on the canvas can become part of a musical performance. Instead of using a traditional piano roll or complicated music-production interface, the experience combines visual art with accessible music-making. Users can draw with a mouse, touchscreen, or trackpad while hearing musical notes respond to their movements.

Explore Instruments and Musical Scales

The application includes several locally stored instrument sounds, including piano, marimba, bell, and synth. Each instrument offers a different character, allowing users to create anything from soft and atmospheric melodies to bright, rhythmic patterns. The keyboard covers 25 chromatic notes from C4 through C6, providing a useful range for experimenting with melodies, harmonies, and expressive sound design.

Users can also select a musical key and scale to guide their creative process. This makes it easier to stay within a harmonious group of notes, even without formal musical training. Beginners can freely explore without worrying about incorrect notes, while experienced users can use the scale settings to create intentional compositions and recognizable musical phrases.

Creative Drawing Tools

A variety of canvas tools gives each musical drawing its own visual style. The Brush tool is ideal for direct, expressive lines, while Glow adds a luminous quality to the artwork. Ribbon creates flowing strokes, Dots produces individual points, and Spray adds a textured pattern. The Eraser allows users to refine their composition, and controls for brush size and color make it possible to develop detailed, colorful artwork.

Preset paint colors provide quick access to the main palette, while a custom color picker allows for more personal combinations. Users can also change the canvas paper, theme, and overall appearance to match the mood of their piece. These visual options help make every creation feel unique, whether it is designed as an abstract painting, a musical sketch, or an animated sound illustration.

Record and Export Your Creations

Music Paint is designed to preserve both the visual and musical sides of the experience. The Play feature can replay the exact path of a user’s drawing in its original order. A moving white playhead and progressive point trail follow the stroke without changing the finished artwork, making playback feel like a visual performance of the composition.

Users can undo, redo, or clear their work at any time. Finished artwork can be exported as a PNG image, while complete canvas performances can be recorded as video. The recording captures the paint canvas and app-generated audio, allowing users to share the creative result without including surrounding interface elements. Audio can also be exported as a local WAV file using the selected instrument, key, scale, volume, and reverb settings.

Music Paint encourages curiosity and experimentation. There is no single correct way to use it: users can create short melodies, rhythmic patterns, colorful animations, relaxing soundscapes, or playful visual compositions.
